South Fremont 54, Filer 26

AMERICAN FALLS — The Wildcats’ strong postseason stretch fizzled in Saturday’s 3A state play-in game.

The scored was tied 6-6 after one quarter, but South Fremont outscored Filer 35-12 over the next two quarters to pull away.

Ella Fischer scored 10 points for the Wildcats, who finished the season with a 7-19 record.

Filer went 3-3 in its final six games, which included a first-round district tournament upset of top-seeded Kimberly and a win over Gooding that sent the Wildcats to the district title game, where they lost to Buhl in overtime.

MOUNTAIN HOME — The Hornets built a 7-0 lead, but the Pilgrims rebounded to win Saturday’s 2A state play-in game.

“We played them tight the whole game,” Declo first-year coach Heather Gibby said. “They just settled in, hit some 3s and kinda took the air out of us.”

Maddie Ramsey scored 15 points, and Kelly Montoya added 11 for Declo, which ended the season at 9-12.

“It was a great learning experience on my end,” Gibby said. “On the girls’ end, it took some heart and took some frustration, but they worked through it.”
