TWIN FALLS — The Riverhawks exploded offensively in the sixth inning and hung on in the seventh to down Jerome and advance to the Great Basin Conference championship game.
Kylee Gerstl’s three-run home run in the sixth inning proved to plate the game-winning runs, as Taylor Huddleston preserved the lead in the top of the seventh to close out the game. Huddleston was charged with six runs on eight hits while striking out 10 batters.
Alexia Pfister also batted in three runs on a 3-for-3 game at the plate, including a two-run home run. Ali Beverly launched another two-run bomb to start Canyon Ridge’s scoring and went 2-for-3.
Jerome’s Mercedes Bell hit two dingers in the game, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs.
Second-seeded Canyon Ridge (16-12) will play Saturday at No. 1 Twin Falls, which is 4-0 against the Riverhawks this season.
No. 3 Jerome’s season ended with a final record of 17-8.
Minico 5, Wood River 3
RUPERT — The Spartans rode a first-inning 3-0 lead to a 5-3 win over the Wolverines to advance to the Great Basin Conference championship game.
Drake Miller pitched a solid game, with none of Wood River’s three runs charged to him. Miller allowed only four hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in the complete game.
Rylan Chandler had the most consistent bat for the Spartans, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, and Blaze Dennis scored twice as he batted 1-for-1 with two walks.
Four different Wood River batters recorded a hit, including Christian Hovey, who knocked in two runs.
Top-seeded Minico (22-5) earned a berth to the state tournament with the win, and will play at second-seeded Twin Falls on Saturday, needing to win twice to capture the district title. The Spartans are 1-3 against the Bruins this season, including a 4-1 district semifinal loss in extra innings on Tuesday.
No. 3 Wood River ended its season at 12-15.
