TWIN FALLS — The Bruins kept their season alive with a Great Basin Conference tournament win over the Tigers Monday at the Sunway Soccer Complex.
Champ Geske scored in the first half for the only goal of the game.
“I felt like we dominated three-quarters of the game,” Twin Falls coach J.J. Stagge said. “We passed the ball extremely well.”
The fourth-seeded Bruins (6-5-6) have another loser-out game on Wednesday at No. 3 Burley.
No. 5 Jerome’s season ends at 6-10-1.
Jerome 3, Burley 0
JEROME — The Tigers stayed alive in the Great Basin Conference tournament and ended Burley’s season on Monday.
Makali Nance scored twice and Kimberly Castillo scored once for fourth-seeded Jerome (6-10), which plays another loser-out game on Wednesday, this time at No. 3 Canyon Ridge.
No. 5 Burley finished with a 5-13 overall record.
Shoshone 3, Valley 0; Lighthouse 3, Shoshone 0
SHOSHONE — The Indians split a pair of matches — one Snake River Conference, one nonconference — on Monday night.
Shoshone swept Valley 25-17, 25-13, 25-15 but was swept by Lighthouse 26-28, 13-25, 6-25.
“The second game, they just started hitting really well,” Shoshone coach Melissa Martin said of Lighthouse. “We got blocked a few times, and we stopped hitting.”
Against the Vikings, Monce Rivas had 12 kills, Allysen Huyser had eight kills and Bailee Owens and Patti Fitzgerald combined for 16 assists.
Against the Lions, Rivas had nine kills, and Cierra Hennings had five.
For Lighthouse, Haylee Grossman had 16 kills, nine digs and three blocks, Gracie Cover had 15 kills and Sabrina De Jong had 34 assists, eight digs and five aces.
The Lions (13-0) wrap up the regular season at home against Filer on Tuesday.
Shoshone (10-6, 8-2) hosts Wendell on Wednesday for senior night, and Valley hosts the Trojans the next day to end its regular season.
Oakley 3, Declo 0
DECLO — Oakley improved to 14-1 overall with a nonconference road win on Monday night.
As a team, Oakley had 25 kills and 21 blocks.
Oakley wraps up the regular season on Tuesday against Glenns Ferry, with sights on a 10-0 Snake River Conference record. Declo hosts Kimberly on Wednesday.
TWIN FALLS — Twin Falls senior Tayllore Ward took first place in the women’s field of the 2017 IGA Tournament of Champions this past weekend at Blue Lakes Country Club.
Ward shot a 75 in the first round and a 79 in the second to finish 8-over for the tournament. She finished two shots clear of Meridian’s Abby Black.
Twin Falls resident and Gooding native Brittanie Toone finished third with a total of 17-over for the two rounds, and Jennifer Harper of Ketchum finished fourth with a total of 24-over.
On the men’s side, Carson Berry of Eagle won with an even-par total over two days. Ketchum’s Alan Barnhardt finished tied for third at 4-over, and Twin Falls’ Michael Billiard and Chase Schaniel tied for eighth at 13-over.
Twin Falls’ Carl Sklavos won the senior men’s division with an even-par total over the two rounds, and Boise’s Shawna Ianson won the senior women’s side at 18-over.
