Butte County 60, Murtaugh 15
POCATELLO — The Pirates (7-1) ran away with their 1A Division II state playoff opener Thursday at Holt Arena to end the Red Devils’ season.
Butte County, the No. 1 seed out of District 5-6, led 46-0 at halftime to force a running clock.
Murtaugh ends its season with a 3-6 overall record.
It was an up-and-down fall in a vacuum, but it was a success for the Red Devils. This was their first season on their own since 2012, when they formed a co-op with Hansen.
After reaching the 1A Division I state tournament in 2013, the Murtaugh-Hansen co-op went winless its next three seasons. Murtaugh snapped the losing streak at 26 with a 56-18 win over Richfield earlier this season.
The Red Devils beat Castleford 61-20 last week to force a Kansas City playoff, which it won to advance to state.
New Plymouth 58, Wendell 6
NEW PLYMOUTH — The Pilgrims ended the Trojans’ season with a blowout win in the first round of the 2A state playoffs.
Wendell finished the season with an 0-8 record, its second straight winless season.
