BOISE — Kimberly, Gooding and Wood River high schools led the way for District 4 swimming teams at the state swim meet, which was held at Boise’s West Family YMCA on Friday and Saturday.

Kimberly won the boys and girls team titles for the 3A-1A classifications, and Gooding finished second in both fields. The Wood River boys tied for fourth in the 4A team standings, and the girls were sixth.

Bishop Kelly won both 4A team titles, and Idaho Falls finished second in both.

Four teams competed in the 3A-1A boys races, and five partook in the girls field. Kimberly won both handily thanks to several individual event wins.

The Bulldogs won the boys 200 medley relay (time of 1:53.8), the girls 200 medley relay (2:11.86), the boys 200 freestyle relay (1:41.34), the girls 200 free relay (1:55.5), the boys 400 free relay (3:39.91) and the girls 400 free relay (4:33.93). Kimberly was the only team that competed in either 400 free relay.

Wood River junior Zach Deal won the boys 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.69.

This season was the first for swimming as a state-sanctioned sport, but that sanctioning did not include this weekend’s state meet. The first state meet sanctioned by the Idaho High School Activities Association will be held next fall.
