Head Coach: Michael Perry, 5th year
2016 Record: 2-7 (1-7 1A-DI Snake River Conference)
Shoshone looks to turn around a recent run that’s seen the Indians win just five games in the past five seasons. To do so, they’ll need to overcome a serious numbers deficiency. Head coach Michael Perry says he’s hoping for 16 players on the team’s roster this season.
“Number-wise, we’re down, so we need to make sure we’re physically and mentally prepared to play where we need them to play, not necessarily where they want to play,” Perry said. “We don’t have the numbers to sub in like some other teams in our conference do, so we have to be prepared for that.”
The Indians lose several linebackers and receivers from a team that went 2-7 last season, but return quarterback Ethan Perry and lineman Korban Weaver.
Shoshone will need to bring its A-game on a weekly basis in the tough Snake River Conference. It opens on the road against Rimrock, then hosts a strong Valley team during week two, in a conference matchup.
“Our big thing is increasing our intensity on the practice field so that it equates into games,” Perry said. “We knew we had some small classes coming, so we’ve been planning for this. We’ll take the kids that come out and play the best ones.”
