Head Coach: Todd Jensen, 1st year

2016 Record: 0-8 (0-8 1A-DI Snake River Conference as co-op with Hansen)

Playoffs: None

Over the winter, Murtaugh and Hansen agreed to disband a football co-op that had been in place since 2013, so the Red Devils head into this season as a Murtaugh-only squad.

Though players noted at the Times-News Media Day that the two schools got along well, they said playing solely with friends and teammates from their hometown feels like they're taking ownership of the program.

First-year head coach Todd Jensen takes over a team that, even with the co-op, has lost 24 consecutive games over a span of three years. They will drop down to the 1A DII Sawtooth West Conference this season after playing in the Snake River Conference in recent years.

“We want the family atmosphere. We want everyone coming out. We want the families coming. We want the fan support there,” Jensen said.

Jensen and the players from Murtaugh preached a defensive style of “high risk, high reward” at media day. The Red Devils, who lose just two starters from last year’s team, hope to fly around on defense and take advantage of their collective speed, which they see as their greatest strength.

“We want to get in the weight room more. That’s one of our weaknesses right now. We’ve got to get stronger. That will come,” Jensen said. “But speed is a strength for us. We have a lot of speed, so we want to utilize that as much as we can.”
