Head Coach: Cory Holloway, 4th year
2016 Record: 3-5 (2-2 1A-DII Sawtooth West Conference)
Playoffs: Lost to Butte County 58-18 in first round of 1A-DII playoffs
Lighthouse Christian looks to reclaim its spot atop the Sawtooth West Conference after a 3-5 record last season and a first-round playoff exit. The Lions were a state semifinalist two years ago, and are three years removed from an undefeated, state championship season.
To do so, they’ll need to rely on a bevy of youngsters.
Lighthouse has just four returning seniors, including Connor Holloway, who will take over for graduated quarterback Connor Bosma, and Jordan Bradshaw, who will have the unenviable task of filling in for the graduated all-state receiver Eric Silva.
The Lions were hit hard by injuries last season, which allowed some of the younger players to gain varsity experience last year.
“The injury bug would not leave us alone last year. We had a ton of injuries, so just about everyone ended up playing varsity,” said fourth-year head coach Cory Holloway.
One of those injuries was Bradshaw, who missed most of last season with a concussion. He figures to start the season with a clean slate of health. Holloway admits that Silva’s speed is impossible to replace, but he anticipates Bradshaw will fill the receiver spot well, and help the Lions’ offense chug along.
“This is a good, cohesive group of kids,” said Holloway. “It’s early, but I like what I’ve seen out of these guys.”
