Bliss 4, Filer 1
The Bliss boys soccer team secured a spot in the state tournament and a chance at becoming district champions by beating Filer 4-1. It is first time that Bliss has qualified for state in seven years.
Armando Cordoba (junior) opened the scoring in the first half, and Steven Rubio (Sophomore) netted another goal shortly after. Bliss held the score at 2-0 for a while until Filer capitalized on a free kick close to Bliss’ goal. The first half ended 2-1.
Bliss didn’t let up, though, and Miguel Rodriguez (Freshman) scored twice, ending the game at 4-1.
“My team’s tendency when playing these high pressure games has been to bunch up out of position, and our passing game diminishes,” said Bliss coach Dustin Henkelmann. “That was not the case this game. My boy’s proved that they deserve to go to state and that they are capable of competing at state. I couldn’t be prouder; I’m their number one fan.”
Bliss now plays Community School for the district championship.
Community School 6, Wendell 0
Ridley Lindstrom scored three goals, while James Everitt and Johnny Blackburn also scored for the Cutthroats, who advance to the district championship game against Bliss on Wednesday.
It was the first hat trick of freshman Lindstrom’s career.
