Dietrich vs. Genesis Prep state basketball

Dietrich senior Kade Shaw hugs head coach Wayne Dill after getting fouled out of the game Friday during the 1A-DII boys state basketball tournament at Rocky Mountain High School in Meridian. Genesis Prep defeated Dietrich 68-59.

As the Dietrich and Carey high school boys basketball teams wrapped up their 1A Division II state tournament runs on Saturday, the all-North Side Conference selections were announced. And Dietrich and Carey hogged the honors.

Dietrich senior Slade Dill was named the conference’s most valuable player, and his father Wayne Dill earned coach of the year honors. Another Blue Devil senior, Kade Shaw, was the offensive player of the year, and Carey senior Tanner Mecham received the defensive player of the year award.

The Blue Devils also had a first-team player (senior Lon Page), and the Panthers had two (seniors Kaden Koudelka and Hayden Wayment). Lighthouse Christian senior Jordan Bradshaw and Murtaugh junior Guillermo Zavala were the other two first-teamers.

Carey lost to Genesis Prep in Saturday’s state title game. Dietrich, which fell to Genesis Prep in the semifinals, earned the 1A-DII third-place trophy.
