Local roundup: Canyon Ridge sweeps Century in softball debut

Canyon Ridge pitcher Lauren Shotwell shut down Century in a Friday doubleheader as theRiverhawks won their debut softball games 3-2 and 6-2.

Shotwell combined for 17 strikeouts and allowed 10 hits for both games. Sunshine Martinez hit the game winning RBI double in Game 1in the bottom of the seventh inning after Shotwell tied it up.

“I wasn’t sure what to expect,” said Canyon Ridge coach Lyle Hudelson. “We overcame the nerves and mistakes and settled down."

In Game 2 Karly Hudelson was 3-for-4 with a triple and 4 RBIs.

A box score for the doubleheader was unavailable.

Twin Falls splits with Highland

The Twin Falls Bruins split with the Highland Rams Friday night, losing 8-3 but picking up a 7-2 win in Game 2.

Brianna Bishop suffered the loss in Game 1 while Jacqueline Corr struck out five, walked one and allowed one earned run in Game 2.

Allie Johnson led the hitting corps for Twin Falls, going 2-2 with 2 RBIs.

Twin Falls hosts Skyline today in a double header with weather permitting.

Jerome splits with e. Idaho teams

The Jerome tennis team defeated Pocatello 7-5 and fell to Century 11-1 Friday in a tri-meet.

Eric Novis was the only Jerome player to win a match against each team, defeating Trage Bloxham of Pocatello 6-0, 6-0 and Tyler Briggs of Century 6-1, 6-1.

Oscar Ochoa, Breanna Gilbert, Cassandra Novis, Hannah Hull also won singles matches, while the teams of Natalie Briggs and Barbar Garay andCoy Pilkenton and Crystal Valdez won in girls doubles.
