SALT LAKE CITY — The College of Southern Idaho women’s basketball team earned head coach Randy Rogers his 400th career win with an 87-36 victory over Air Force Academy Prep at the Salt Lake CC Invitational on Friday.
Rogers is currently in his 16th season as head coach of CSI, and he has led the Golden Eagles to eight Region 18 championships. He has also been named Scenic West Athletic Conference coach of the year five times.
Against Air Force Academy Prep, Nicole Suarez led CSI in scoring from the bench with 15 points, going 5-for-5 from 3-point range.
Gabriella Bruno, Filer High School graduate Meghan Hughes, Ka’Maree Donald and Mallory Lapoole also scored in double digits. Tiena Afu grabbed eight rebounds, including five offensive boards.
The Golden Eagles (11-1), who are ranked No. 15 nationally, finish the tournament on Saturday against New Mexico Junior College.
CSI men’s basketball downs Portland CC 88-77
SALT LAKE CITY — The No. 9-ranked College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball team beat Portland Community College in the Salt Lake Community CC Invitational after a strong first-half performance.
The Golden Eagles outscored the Panthers 49-34 in the first half and scored 18 points off of turnovers in the game to earn the victory.
Charles Jones Jr., the reigning SWAC Player of the Week, and Danya Kingsby led the Golden Eagles with 21 and 20 points, respectively. Kingsby made four of the six 3-pointers for CSI, which averaged nearly 14 per game before Friday’s performance.
Malik Porter contributed a team-high nine rebounds from the bench. Jake Hendricks added five assists with no turnovers.
CSI (10-1) will face Rexburg United on Saturday in its last game in the invitational.
