SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The College of Southern Idaho volleyball team has one loss this season, and it was to Miami Dade CC, the No. 1-ranked team in NJCAA Division I.

The Golden Eagles have been victorious in their other 16 matches. In their last nine, they’ve been perfect.

CSI (16-1) won three more matches this weekend, including two on Saturday. The No. 5-ranked Golden Eagles swept all three matches, too, which means they haven’t lost a set since September 2 — nine matches ago.

The last team to take a set from CSI was Northwest College, which lost 3-1 on September 2 at the Salt Lake CC Tournament. Miami Dade beat CSI 3-1 the day before, and the Golden Eagles beat Laramie County CC 3-1 a few hours prior to the Miami Dade match.

That’s what has constituted a rough stretch for CSI this season. Through Saturday, the Golden Eagles have won 49 sets and lost six.

CSI began the Arizona trip on Thursday at Phoenix College. The Bears didn’t lay down, but CSI won 25-17, 25-25, 25-20.

The Golden Eagles took on Scottsdale CC to begin Saturday’s slate, and the test was tougher. But again, CSI found a way to win each set, this time 25-23, 25-19, 25-20.

Shiloh Peleras had 14 kills and a block, Jojo Kruize had 13 kills and two aces and Jasmyn Keohohina-Malina had eight kills and six blocks against Scottsdale.

If fatigue was a factor, it didn’t derail the Golden Eagles against Mesa CC Saturday night. They won 25-19, 25-17, 25-12 to cap a perfect road trip.

Airi Miyabe led CSI with 15 kills in the match. Kruize had eight kills and an ace, Peleras had five kills and three blocks and Keohohina-Malina had four kills and two blocks.

The Golden Eagles return home next week and begin Scenic West Athletic Conference play. Their next match is Friday against Southern Nevada.
