TWIN FALLS — Mallory Lapoole set a season-high in a 108-88 win for the College of Southern Idaho women’s basketball team against Western Wyoming Community College Saturday night.
Lapoole scored a career-best 28 points on efficient shooting in the final game of the Hilex Poly Invitational. The freshman guard drained 11-of-14 field goals and 3-of-4 3-pointers, and she grabbed eight rebounds. Her previous-best point total was 23, which she scored against Lethbridge College on Dec. 1.
On Saturday, the Golden Eagles only led 53-48 at halftime, but a 36-18 third quarter helped them pull away.
CSI’s Tiena Afu scored 15 points (7-of-12 from the field) and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds, while fellow sophomore Jaime Nielson scored 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists. Sisters Meghan and Katie Hughes, who both graduated from Filer High School, scored 12 points and 10 points, respectively.
The Golden Eagles (12-2) play at Treasure Valley CC on Tuesday.
CSI men rally for 11th straight win
TWIN FALLS — The CSI men’s basketball team ended the Hilex Poly Invitational with a 107-96 win over Laramie County Community College Saturday night.
The Golden Eagles trailed 51-48 at halftime but came through in the second half thanks largely to their sophomores.
CSI guard Charles Jones Jr. scored 27 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the field, including a 5-of-10 perofrmance from 3-point range. Fellow sophomore guard Danya Kingsby had 18 points (7-of-15 from the field), 10 assists and six rebounds.
Freshman forward Khalid Thomas had 20 points (8-of-15) and six rebounds, redshirt sophomore guard Telly Davenport had 13 points (6-of-13) and six rebounds, and sophomore big man Roche Grootfaam had 11 points (5-of-6) and also six boards.
CSI (13-1) plays at Treasure Valley CC on Tuesday.
