TWIN FALLS — The College of Southern Idaho softball team played its first home games of the season Friday, and it won both in blowout fashion.
CSI beat Treasure Valley Community College 11-2 and 20-2 in Friday’s doubleheader.
In game one, TVCC scored one run in the top of the first inning and held a 1-0 lead until the third, when CSI tied it up. The Golden Eagles then scored seven runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to end the game early via run rule.
CSI freshman Kamryn Grover pitched all five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, four walks and eight strikeouts.
The Golden Eagles hit five extra-base hits, including three home runs, in the game. Hailey Hicks went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, a double and a walk. Stefani Zimmerman also went 2-for-3 and hit a solo home run, while Melanie Groenwegen went 1-for-2 with a two-run blast.
Starting slow wasn’t an issue in game two. CSI scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning and four in the second to build a 13-1 lead. The Golden Eagles scored another run in the third, then six in the fourth to complete the demolition.
Zimmerman pitched all five innings for CSI, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits, a walk and four strikeouts.
At the plate, Tristin Evans went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk, Hicks was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks and Siearrah Anderson went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and a stolen base. Sherry Boone also hit a two-run homer, while Kassidie Brooks went 3-for-4 and Hadyn Flygare finished 2-for-3.
The Golden Eagles (10-4) will complete their series against the Chukars with a doubleheader on Saturday.
