MILES CITY, Mont. — The College of Southern Idaho women’s basketball team began the 2017-18 season with a 66-49 win on the road against Miles City Community College.

The final score softened the dominance of CSI’s first half. The Golden Eagles, ranked No. 24 in the season’s first NJCAA Division I poll, led 23-9 after one quarter Wednesday night. That lead ballooned to 40-12 at halftime thanks to a 17-3 second quarter.

CSI was led by freshman guard Mallory Lapoole, who scored 16 points to tie the game-high. Tiena Afu and Chesney Campbell each scored nine points, and sophomore Jane Nelson added eight.

The Golden Eagles head to North Dakota this weekend for the Williston State Invitational. They’re schedule to face Williston State on Friday and Western Nebraska CC on Saturday.

The CSI men’s basketball team opens its season this weekend, as well — at the same tournament against the same opponents on the same days as the women.

The Golden Eagle men’s team, ranked No. 10 in Division I, begins its home schedule next weekend with the Fisher’s Tech Invitational. The women open home play on Thanksgiving weekend in the Idaho Central Credit Union Invite.
