TWIN FALLS – CSI softball put up 10 runs between the two first innings of a doubleheader to cruise to 10-2 and 11-3 wins over USU Eastern, the last-place team in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
In game one, the Golden Eagles scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning to assert their dominance early. Samantha Riesen gave up just three hits to earn the complete game win in the circle. At the plate, Melanie Groenewegen had a home run and four RBIs, Twin Falls High School graduate Madi Ford had three singles, and Skylar Cook had three singles and stole a base.
In game two, CSI scored four runs in the first inning to set a similar tone as game one. Stefani Zimmerman gave up five hits in the circle, and the Golden Eagles bashed five home runs. Nicole Renner hit a pair of home runs, and Groenewegen, Erin Emanuel, and Jaici Bishop each hit one. Skylar Cook also had three more singles and a stolen base to finish 6-for-7 on the day.
CSI (35-15, 25-9) hosts USU Eastern in another doubleheader on Saturday, starting at noon, to wrap up the four-game series.

PRICE, Utah – CSI handled USU Eastern in game one of a four-game series by a score of 8-2. In game two, CSI tied a back-and-forth game in the top of the ninth on an opposite field home run by Brett Resch. The game was tied at 13 in the top of the 10th inning when it had to be called because of darkness.
The series, and game two, will resume Saturday at noon.
