YUMA, Ariz. — The College of Southern Idaho softball team fell to Pima CC 11-1 to begin the Arizona Western Shootout, but it bounced back with a 22-0 no-hitter against Arizona Western CC.

Against Pima, Melanie Groenewegen led CSI at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double. Though Stefani Zimmerman earned the loss on the mound, she only allowed two earned runs and struck out five batters in five innings of work.

Pima has handed the Golden Eagles (5-2) their only two losses of the season.

Kamryn Grover pitched a no-hitter with four strikeouts in the five-winning blowout against Arizona Western. Zimmerman went 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs, and Sierrah Anderson launched a grand slam in the shutout.

CSI will play No. 6-ranked Yavapai at 1 p.m. and No. 4 Central Arizona at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Eagles beat both teams 12-4 last week.

CSI baseball begins season with 10-run loss

LAS VEGAS — The CSI baseball team began its season with a 14-4 loss Thursday against Scottsdale Community College.

The Golden Eagles led 1-0 through two innings on Thursday, but the floodgates opened in the third. Scottsdale scored three runs in that inning, then scored four in the fourth and two in the fifth to go ahead 9-1.

CSI starting pitcher Colton Westfall allowed five earned run on three strikeouts and three walks in three innings.

CSI faces Scottsdale again on Friday, this time in a doubleheader.
