SALT LAKE CITY – It would have required an air-tight effort for CSI softball to knock off second-ranked Salt Lake Community College on the Bruins’ home turf Thursday. The Golden Eagles failed to produce such a performance, as they fell 9-1 in six innings in an undefeated round game of the Region 18 tournament.

Salt Lake scored first in the bottom of the second inning, but CSI responded when Jaici Bishop smacked a solo home run in the top of the third. Things unraveled for CSI in the bottom of the third, however, as the Bruins plated six runs. The Golden Eagles’ offense was held in check for the duration, and Salt Lake added runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Stefani Zimmerman took the loss in the circle, as she gave up six hits and seven earned runs in 2 1/3 innings. At the plate, Bishop hit a solo home run for CSI’s only extra base hit of the day, and Melanie Groenewegen and Madi Ford each had a pair of singles.

CSI takes on the winner of Colorado Northwestern Community College and Snow College at 11 a.m. Saturday.
