LAS VEGAS — Eight days after its last game, the College of Southern Idaho women’s basketball team picked up where it left off.

CSI defeated Central Arizona College 77-53 on Wednesday, the first day of the CSN Holiday Basketball Classic. It was the third straight win for the Golden Eagles, the No. 22-ranked team in the NJCAA Division I poll.

The Golden Eagles only led 14-11 after one quarter, but they built a 47-23 halftime lead thanks to a 33-point output in the second quarter. Each team scored 30 points in the entire second half.

CSI freshman guard Mallory Lapoole scored a game-high 17 points on efficient shooting (6-of-9 from the field, 1-of-1 from 3-point range), and she grabbed 10 rebounds.

Freshman guard Kaela McClure, a Jerome High School graduate, scored 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting (4-of-4 from 3). Tiena Afu grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds, and Jane Nelson scored 11 points (4-of-8 from the field, 2-of-5 from 3).

The Golden Eagles made up for a 10-of-24 (41.7 percent) performance from the free-throw line with a 9-of-20 (45 percent) mark from 3-point range. They shot 29-of-69 (42 percent) from the field.

Central Arizona was 23-of-75 (30.7 percent) from the field and 1-of-15 (6.7 percent) from 3.

CSI (14-2) plays its second of three CSN Holiday Basketball Classic games on Thursday. It will face Grand Canyon at 11 a.m. MST.

The CSI men will face San Bernadino Valley on Thursday to begin the Fiesta Bowl Shootout, which takes place in Mesa, Ariz.
