TWIN FALLS — The College of Southern Idaho softball team continued its winning ways with a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep over Snow College on Friday.
The Golden Eagles, ranked No. 8 in the NJCAA Division I poll, beat the Badgers 10-2 and 8-5 at First Federal Field. They have won 21 of their last 22 games.
Game one was all CSI, especially early. The Golden Eagles scored four runs in the first inning and two in both the second and third to take an 8-0 lead.
CSI’s Melanie Groenewegen went 3-for-3, Kasside Brooks went 2-for-2 with a double and a walk, Anjalee Batchelor went 2-for-3 with a double and Hailey Hicks went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run.
In game two, the Golden Eagles scored three runs in the first inning and two in both the second and third to take a 7-0 lead, and they led 8-1 through five.
Groenewegen opened the scoring with a three-run home run. She added a double and finished 3-for-4. Siearrah Anderson (2-for-3) and starting pitcher Kamryn Grover (1-for-3) also hit homers in the game.
CSI (32-8, 22-4) will look to win and/or sweep the series on Saturday afternoon.
CSI baseball pitches two shutouts
TWIN FALLS — The CSI baseball team beat the Utah State club team 5-0 and 10-0 in Friday’s home doubleheader.
Dylan Steen was the Golden Eagles’ starting pitcher in the 5-0 win, and he went all seven innings. He allowed two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.
CSI’s Colin Gordon led the way at the plate in the second game, going 3-for-3 with a triple and a walk.
The Golden Eagles (32-8) will wrap up the four-game series with another doubleheader on Saturday.
