PRICE, Utah — The No. 10-ranked College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball team handled Utah State University Eastern 88-73 in Saturday’s Scenic West Athletic Conference matchup.

CSI trailed 42-39 at halftime but came through in the second half. It remained second in the SWAC standings with the victory.

Thomas Khalid scored a CSI-high 20 points (8-of-17 from the field), while Roberto Gittens (4-of-13) and Jake Hendricks (2-of-8) each scored 13. Hendricks went 8-of-8 from the free-throw line one game after missing a crucial free throw late in regulation against No. 8 Salt Lake CC, which went on to win in double overtime.

Tommy Burton (3-of-10 on field goals) and Telly Davenport (3-of-5) each scored 10 points, and Nico Aguirre Urritia had eight points (2-of-4 on 3-pointers) and 11 assists. Burton grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

CSI (22-4, 6-2) plays USU Eastern again on Saturday, this time at home.

USU Eastern rallies, drops CSI in overtime

PRICE, Utah — The CSI women’s basketball team squandered a 64-56 lead heading into the fourth quarter and ultimately lost 93-90 in overtime for a Scenic West Athletic Conference loss.

At 4-4 in SWAC play, CSI is now in jeopardy of falling to fourth in the conference standings. USU Eastern improved to 3-4 in the SWAC with Saturday’s win.

CSI’s top scorer Mallory Lapoole returned from injury and led her team in scoring yet again with a game-high 24 points on Saturday (10-of-17 from the field, 4-of-8 from 3).

Elsewhere for CSI, Tiena Afu had 18 points (8-of-15 on FGs) and a game-high 14 rebounds, Chesney Campbell had 14 (4-of-10) and eight, Jamie Nielson scored 13 points (5-of-8) and Jerome High School graduate Kaela McClure poured in 10 (3-of-5).

CSI (19-7) hosts USU Eastern on Saturday.
