SPANISH FORK, Utah — The College of Southern men’s rodeo team won the Utah Valley University Rodeo over the weekend to finish the first half of the season in prime position.
The Golden Eagle men are No. 1 in the Rocky Mountain Region going into the second half of the season, which begins March 2 at Snow College.
The CSI women finished second at the UVU rodeo, and they’re also second in the Rocky Mountain standings.
At Utah Valley, the men finished with 670 total points, 230 more than second place Weber State. The Weber State women finished with 360 points, 60 more than CSI.
Individually, CSI’s Hazen Smith tied Idaho State’s Kolbey Hughes for first in the men’s all-around with 240 points. CSI’s Ashtyn Carlson finished second (260 points) behind Weber State’s Tenille Rhodes (320) in the women’s all-around.
Elsewhere for CSI over the weekend, Smith took first in steer wrestling (11.7 seconds), Carlson took barrel racing (33.03), Cody Ruby won the saddle bronc (123 points) and Bronc Marriott placed first in the bareback (143).
Carlson is on top of the Rocky Mountain Region in the women’s all-around heading into the second half, and fellow Golden Eagle Luke Logan leads the men’s all-around.
CSI will host a rodeo from March 9-10, one week after the second half-opening Snow College Rodeo.
