ST. GEORGE, Utah — The College of Southern Idaho baseball team opened Scenic West Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader split against Salt Lake Community College on Thursday.
SLCC won the first game 6-3, and CSI won the second 10-2.
CSI was originally scheduled to host the four-game series, but Friday’s wet forecast prompted the teams to relocate the series to Snow Canyon High School in St. George.
In Thursday’s first game, SLCC scored two runs in the first inning and two more in the second to take a 4-1 lead. The Bruins led 6-1 after a two-run fifth inning and carried that lead into the seventh.
Nolan Walker (1-for-2, walk) and Hayden Leatham (1-for-3) both hit solo home runs for the Golden Eagles in the loss.
In game two, CSI took a 2-0 lead in the second inning and led the rest of the way. The Golden Eagles went up 4-1 through four, 5-2 through five and 7-2 through six, and they added three runs in the seventh. CSI’s Dylan Steen pitched all seven innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits, two walks and five strikeouts.
At the plate for the Golden Eagles, Shawn Grandmont went 2-for-3 with a solo homer, an RBI double, a walk and a stolen base. Brett Resch went 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, Travis Bohall went 2-for-3 with two walks and Leatham finished 1-for-3 with two walks.
CSI (11-3) will play SLCC in another doubleheader Friday to wrap up the series.
