HENDERSON, Nev. — The College of Southern Idaho baseball team beat Cochise and Yavapai College on Friday to begin the College of Southern Nevada Kickoff Classic.
The Golden Eagles beat Cochise 6-4. Cochise rallied back from a 4-2 deficit in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game, but CSI drove in two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the 6-4 lead.
Dylan Steen, the reigning Scenic West Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, got the win for the Golden Eagles, allowing three hits through 5 2/3 innings. Five CSI batters each registered an RBI in the victory.
The Golden Eagles followed up that win with a 7-6 victory against Yavapai.
Yavapai scored five runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-5 lead, but CSI scored a run in both the seventh and eighth innings to get the win.
CSI’s Brendan Boily and Brandon Soucy combined for 4 1/3 scoreless innings after the five-run inning by Yavapai. Infielder Colin Gordon went 3-for-3 with three RBIs to lead CSI at the plate.
The Golden Eagles (5-1) will play South Mountain CC on Saturday.
