I am writing to address concerns for our children’s health and development.
The development of a child’s motor skills is so important for them because they will use these their entire life. The more developed their motor skills, the better the child will be able to function and succeed in the many things they will do in life. “It promotes overall health and vitality, encourages independence and self-sufficiency, and furthers cognitive development by increasing ability to explore an ever-enlarging world,” one study found.
One of the biggest concerns when it comes to the health of children is their nutrition. Children are becoming overweight and/or obese, while others are not getting enough to eat and/or starving. It is our job as adults to provide a healthy, well balanced diet. Stress also plays a role in children’s health. Even young children can get stressed, have insecurities, and depression.
With these issues becoming more of a problem, we need to take action! While providing healthy food for children is a good thing, it is not the only answer. We need to do more. Children need to have exercise to stay healthy and work their developing muscles. We can help our children be more active by encouraging them to get outside, explore their environment, and do physical activities. With summer time approaching and the weather warming up, there are many things we can do with our children to get them moving.
Exercise can be fun and exciting. It doesn’t have to be like in gym class where everyone has to do the same boring jumping jacks and sit-ups. Besides swimming, you can take the children on a nature walk and see how many different things they can find. Take them to the park and let them play on the equipment. Make an obstacle course for the children to climb in, under, on. The main thing is to get the children engaged in an activity that is fun and gets them moving.
