CASTLEFORD • The driver of a dump truck that rolled into Salmon Falls Creek Canyon Monday was in serious condition at a Boise hospital Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened about 3:45 p.m. near 700 East and 4350 North. The driver, Daniel Connelly, 56, of Parma, was taken by helicopter to a Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise by 7:30 p.m.
Witnesses who called 911 reported seeing movement from inside the vehicle's cab, Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lori Stewart said.
The truck came to rest on a boulder about 300 feet down in the canyon.
When rescuers arrived, Connelly was conscious and breathing, but was trapped in the truck, Stewart said.
Twin Falls County search and rescue and special operations response team rappelled the canyon to rescue him about 5:20 p.m.
The truck fell while on a narrow canal road, Stewart said.
“One of the tires just went over the edge,” she said.
