TWIN FALLS — A local business wants to turn a former gym on Pole Line Road into a retail store.

Real Deals on Home Décor plans to move its Twin Falls store to the former home of YMCA’s Canyon Rim branch. The franchise owners Nate and Carrie Kelsey have asked for a special use permit for 1881 Pole Line Road E.

The property is within the city’s area of impact and has been vacant since the YMCA closed its branch in October.

Real Deals on Home Décor opened in 2003 in Twin Falls and has grown to more than 65 locations in North America. In Twin Falls, it operates out of a former creamery on Fairfield Street.

City staff reported the business sells 95 percent of its inventory in Twin Falls, and rarely ships to other stores. In their application, the Kelseys stated Real Deals would like to move locations “to be more relevant and accessible to customers and in the flow of current retail competition.”

The Kelseys have received a permit to remove some interior walls of the building. The special use permit is for zoning purposes, and will go to a public hearing Tuesday at the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at 305 Third Ave. E.
