November 3, 1922 – November 7, 2017
BURLEY — Ross V. Jones of Burley, Idaho passed away on November 7, 2017 of natural causes and a broken heart.
Dad was born on the family farm in the Unity area on November 3, 1922 to Percy Logan Jones and Larena Guinilla Johnson Jones. He was raised during the Great Depression and learned the value and necessity of hard work which he maintained throughout his life. After graduating from high school in 1942, Mom and Dad went to a welding and sheet metal school in Weiser, ID and then traveled to Portland, OR to work in the war effort building ships for the U.S. Navy. Dad became a master welder and mom was truly ‘Rosie the Riveter’. They were married in Weiser, ID on October 30, 1942. Dad was 19 and mom was 17 and they had to come back to Idaho on the train to get parental permission for mom because of her age. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on October 30, 2017.
After the war, dad pursued his welding skills and in the early 1950’s opened Ross Mfg. Co. in Burley and produced the Ross All Job truck bed which he invented and the business grew into a major provider of farm equipment in the Intermountain area. Upon selling the business dad went into the real estate development business and built one of the most prestigious subdivisions in Cassia County on the banks of the Snake River east of Burley. During this time, every fall was a 4 or 5 week trip to Tillamook, OR for salmon fishing with mom’s sister Betsy and her husband Murray Goold, dad’s best friend since grade school.
He was a friend to all and always had a heartfelt hello and greeting for everyone he came in contact with. I must say that I have never loved or respected anyone in my life more than dad and I know there are innumerable people who would say the same thing.
Dad is survived by his wife Lorraina Rae Mabey Jones, myself, Michael V. Jones and five estranged sons and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy Logan Jones, Larena Guinilla Johnson Jones, brothers Louis L. Jones, John Jones, William (Bill) Jones and sisters Ione Jones, Doris Mae Fullmer and Larena (Myrth) Kidd.
Dad, we will all miss you so much but we know we will be with you again soon. It is a blessing that you are finally freed from the pain and suffering you have so gracefully endured.
