December 10, 1927 – February 3, 2018
Mary Baldwin, long time resident of Jerome County, died at the age of 90 after a long struggle with severe arthritis. She and her husband raised Charolais cattle on a ranch outside Wendell, Idaho for many years. She sold the ranch, and eventually the house, after Eldon’s death in 2001. Mary then moved to assisted living near Boise where she remained until her death.
Mary grew up on a sheep ranch near Succor Creek, in Owyhee County, Idaho, attending high school in Homedale and achieving a beautician certification after graduating.
The Baldwin’s were married shortly after the end of World War II and in the early years ran a dairy outside Eagle, Idaho. Leaving that, they operated Chevron gas stations, first in Eagle, then Riggins, Idaho and later in Boise. Through all enterprises, Mary worked beside her husband, pumping gas, changing oil and repairing tires. When they left the gas station business and bought their cattle ranch, she raised goats, drove tractors and participated wholly in the every-day handling and sales of their cattle herd.
Mary is survived by two sons, James and Terrance, and one grandson, Daniel. Interment will be in the Star Cemetery. Memorials to the Humane Society are suggested, in lieu of flowers.
Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Mary’s memorial webpage on www.summersfuneral.com.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, at Star Cemetery.
