November 3, 1944 – November 1, 2017
Jess LaChonus Wilson, 72, passed away suddenly of natural causes, on November 1, 2017 in Springfield, Oregon. Jess was born on November 3, 1944, in Wendell, Idaho to Woodrow and Myrtle Wilson. He grew up on the family farm south of Jerome, Idaho with his siblings Dorsie (Probasco), Bonnie (Kersey), Wallace and Mary Jo (Durfee). Jess married Cheryl Eastep on June 16, 1961 in Jerome. Together they had 3 children: Michael (Paige) of Pittsgrove, New Jersey; Monte (Diane) of Boise, Idaho; and Nicole (Jack) Hiler of Boise, Idaho. Besides raising his family, working a variety of jobs, and running a small farm, Jess was very active in coaching baseball and supporting several youth activities.
In 1976, Jess married Marsha Andreason Chaney and welcomed her two daughters Dana Getchell and Michele (Eric) Smallwood, both of Springfield, Oregon, into his family. Together they had a son Miles (Jessica) of Springfield, Oregon.
Looking for a change and the opportunity to become an avid fisherman, Jess relocated the family to Springfield, Oregon in 1988. While continuing to work in the dairy industry, he found joy in spending time with family and friends on his distinctive yellow boat. After retirement, he continued his active role in his grandchildren’s school and sporting activities, tending to his prized rose bushes and planning the next fishing trip so he could proudly place another picture to the family’s fishing wall of fame.
Jess was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Cheryl, and his brother Wallace Wilson.
He is survived by his wife, 6 children, 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and his 3 sisters.
Jess had a kind and genuine nature that made him a friend to everyone. His endless supply of gum and his ability to fascinate kids with his “talent” to blow up his muscles and talk like a duck, made him adopted grandpa to numerous kids throughout the years. We will all miss his special sense of humor and comforting presence.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on November 17th, 2017 at Snake River Elks Lodge at 93 Golf Ranch in Jerome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the charity of your choice.
