May 26, 1944—February 24, 2018

Jerry Glenn Honsinger passed away Feb 24, 2018 peacefully in Burley, Idaho surrounded by his family.

Our Dad was born 2 months early on May 26, 1944 to his parents Earl Honsinger and Laveta Rice Honsinger in Rupert Idaho. Grandma said he was so tiny that he could fit in a shoebox. Dad attended schools in Rupert and graduated from Minico High School in 1963. He then joined the National Guard and had basic training in Fort Knox, Ky. He then came back and married JoAnn Schenk on June 28, 1964 in Rupert Idaho. To this union were born two little girls, Becky and Wendy. They were later divorced. He married Doris Hieb on Feb, 10, 1972. He gained a stepson John Anderson and they had 3 more children, Jerry Lee, Darrin and Kristie. They were later divorced and he then married Beverly Kaiser on June 2, 1983. They, too, divorced.

Jerry had a wonderful childhood in Rupert and I’ve always heard stories from Grandma and extended families how their home was where everyone enjoyed coming to the most. From catching Poliwogs in the ditch and later watching the ducks enjoying eating them to riding his bike all around or playing with his little cars in the track that they made out of sand, all those times held such precious memories.

Jerry had a strong work ethic and never complained about working. He spent time working at Lockwoods, 26 years at Magic Valley Foods, Mart Produce, and Dalry electric all in Rupert, Idaho. He was a jack of all trades and loved tinkering around with cars and fixing them. Dad loved to spend time with Darrin in his shop helping him or later years just sitting on the chair and watching Darrin. Darrin said that he learned all he knew about fixing cars from his Dad.

He was always willing to help anyone in need and would take his shirt off his back to help if he needed too. He had a big heart, but struggled to tell how he felt to the ones he cared for the most.

Dad enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, 4-wheeling and going to our family cabin in Pine. He especially loved driving out to the desert and wandering around to see what he can find. He would pick up unique rocks, arrowheads, old tin cans and bottles and old license plates—basically anything that was in his path he hauled home! In his later years, he really enjoyed going with his brother and sister and even his Mom to Why, Arizona and spending time with them and enjoyed the sunshine and desert there.

Jerry was preceded in death by his Dad Earl Honsinger, his infant brother Earl, his step-father Lavern Montgomery, his beloved Mother Laveta Montgomery, nephew Monty Lavern Towell, great granddaughter Ella May Calderon and numerous Aunts and Uncles.

He is survived by his 5 children. Becky(Luis) Aguilar of Filer, Idaho, Wendy (Mario) Calderon of Burley Idaho, Jerry Lee Honsinger of Rupert, Darrin (Kathy Wickel) Honsinger of Rupert, Idaho and Kristie Honsinger of Twin Falls, Idaho. His siblings Lee Roy Honsinger and Earlene (Robert) Hatmaker both of Rupert, Idaho. He has 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of Dad’s wishes, he will be cremated and at a later date we will have a family/friend celebration of his life. Our family would like to thank Leandra and Genona at Rosetta in Burley and the many gals at Highland Care Center for taking care of our Dad on his good days and bad days. We would specially like to say Thank you to our brother Darrin and Kathy for opening your home up and taking such loving care of Dad. We know this was not easy, but you stepped up when the rest of us couldn’t. Dad loved you so much Darrin and yours was a very special Father/son relationship. Thank you for loving him that much.
