October 29, 1915—November 9, 2017
BURLEY – J. Russon Holbrook, a 102-year-old resident of Logan, Utah, and formerly of Burley, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017, in Logan, Utah, surrounded by his children and eternal sweetheart, June Burnett Holbrook.
J was born Oct. 29, 1915, in West Point, Utah, the son of Lamoni C. Holbrook and Myrtle Russon Holbrook. He was the last surviving member of his family.
J married June Burnett on April 23, 1943, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with six children—three sons and three daughters. After getting married, he farmed with his father in West Point, Utah, for 14 years and then moved to the Pella area in Burley, Idaho, where he purchased a farm and continued farming until he retired at the age of 67. He continued to enjoy working in his yard and was still rototilling his own garden until the age of 99.
Pa, the name he fondly became known as after the birth of his first grandchild, was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his entire life. He was a dedicated home teacher until the age of 99. Pa faithfully exercised the priesthood he held and had the privilege of blessing the sacrament at the age of 100. Pa served four missions; the first in Buenos Aries, Argentina, at the age of 21, and then later served three missions with his sweetheart in Tonga, Jackson, Mississippi, and Vancouver, Canada.
In June 2015, he moved with his sweetheart to Logan, Utah, to reside in The Legacy House, an assisted living facility where he lived until his death.
Pa is survived by his sweetheart of 74 years, June, affectionately called Nana; and his six children, Connie (Kendell) Bingham, Roger (Connie) Holbrook, Kent (Natalie) Holbrook, Rozan Holbrook, LaRae (Scott) Livingston, and Neil Holbrook. Pa and Nana have 36 grandchildren; 97 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Pella 2nd Ward, 152 W. 400 S., of Burley, with Bishop Dee Seamons officiating. Burial will follow at Pella Cemetery.
