May 17, 1948—April 12, 2018
DECLO – Gale Jay Thompson, a 69-year-old Declo resident, passed away peacefully in his home early on April 12, 2018.
Gale was born in Rupert, Idaho to Lawrence C. Thompson and Fern B. Christopherson on May 17, 1948. Gale was raised in Declo where he attended school and graduated from Declo High School in 1966. In 1973, he met the love of his life and future wife; Carrie Lyn Houser-Lyda. After a short courtship, they were married in February of 1974 in Burley, Idaho.
Gale spent his life working hard to provide for his wife and three children. He began his career at POST Academy for the Idaho State Police (ISP) with the Transportation Department. Several years later, they split the ISP and Transportation Department where he finished his career with the State of Idaho working as a Transportation Officer at the Port of Entry and Roving Weigh Station. After retiring from the State of Idaho, Gale began working full time with his wife in their carpet cleaning business until his health no longer allowed for him to participate. Gale had a sincere love for his community and was always involved in his children’s activities, whether it was a football game on a Friday night or a lamb show at the county fair – if his children were involved you can be sure he was there as their biggest supporter.
Gale was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he held many callings over the years and always shined a light in all the lives that he touched. After several years of declining health, Gale was called home by his Heavenly Father and will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
Gale is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Fern; brothers, Robert Lynn, and Michael.
Gale is survived by his wife, Carrie Lyn Houser-Lyda Thompson; his two sons, Robert J. Thompson (Shantelle), Richard W. Thompson (Mindy); his only daughter, Renee Thompson Naing (John), two of his brothers, Kenneth Thompson (Helen), and William Thompson (Marti); his sister-in-law, Nadine Thompson (Michael); and 12 grandchildren: Shalissa, Braylee, Kaedyn, Mason, Kaizlee, Kaylee, Lily, Alyssa, Cody, Kierra, Kaitlyn, and Kaycee. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved all very dearly.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Declo Stake Center, 213 W. Main, in Declo. Bishop Wayne Hurst will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Declo Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley.
The Thompson family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. A. Judd Anderson, Daelynn Smith PA, ICH Hospice, Dr. Alan Nelson, Nurse: Cathy McEwen, Aides: Ilene Harshbarger, Stephanie Mitchell and the entire team at Norco for all their support and care given over the last few years.
