January 29, 1920 – February 3, 2018
BURLEY — Gale Auburn Searle, age 98, of Boise and formerly of Burley, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018 at his home in Boise.
Gale was born January 29, 1920, in Burley, Idaho, the fourth child born to Joseph Edwin Searle and Mary Alice Moffett Searle. He had five brothers: Bernell, Harold, Elwin, Orval and Raymond; and two sisters, Pearl and Ruby.
Gale was gathering cows and horses as a very young boy and continued farming with his dad and brothers as a young man. On June 1, 1940, he married his sweetheart, Maxine Hanks. They began their journey of 77 years together farming, playing, loving, traveling and growing. They spent the first 51 years in the View area, where they raised their family and farmed.
In 1996, after Gale’s first stroke, they moved to Boise for the next 21 years. Gale enjoyed going to McDonald’s and easily made friends despite having a hard time with his speech from the stroke.
He was the best hugger, most loving, gentle, sweet, mischievous, happy and handsome Grandpa we could ask for. It’s possible he stuck around despite multiple strokes because of how much he loved his family and how much we loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bernell Searle, Harold Searle, Elwin Searle, Orval Searle; his sister, Pearl Searle; his daughter, Janet Searle; and his grandson, Jacob Martindale.
Gale was blessed and is survived by his loving sweetheart, Maxine; his four children, Sherry (Rex) Pearson of Sandy, Utah, Duane (Ralene) Searle, Paul (Karen) Searle all of Burley, and Kristine (Brent) Martindale of Boise; 24 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Raymond; and his sister Ruby.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 10, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – View Church, located at 550 S. 500 E., of Burley, with Bishop Michael Searle officiating. Burial will follow at the View Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, February 9, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Saturday preceding the service at the church.
