Elva Hess Strickland, 87, of Wendell, Idaho passed away peacefully in her home December 29, 2017. She was born January 28, 1930 in Farmington, Utah to Horald Stanley Hess and Sarah Lydia (Scott) Hess. She attended schools in Stone, Idaho and finished her education in Wendell, Idaho after the family move.
Elva married Byron Strickland on January 18, 1947. They lived in several locations in accordance with Byron’s career as a carpenter. They made homes in Salmon, Idaho and Gooding, Idaho until 1951, then to Redondo Beach, CA until 1961, moving to Fallen, Nevada until 1976, back to Gooding, Idaho until 1988, then on to Fairfield, Idaho leaving in 1991 and settling in Wendell, Idaho. They raised three children, Rex, E. Dee, and Phyllis and they were all sealed together in 1964. While living in Fairfield, Idaho they adopted four grandchildren.
Elva was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of her life. She loved arts & crafts, cooking, canning, quilting, crocheting, and square dancing.
Elva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Byron; her son, Dee; granddaughter, Jennifer; grandson, Jeffery; sister, Adora; and step sister, Billie.
She is survived by her son, Rex (Nance) Strickland, and daughter, Phyllis F. (Doug) Wiggins; her siblings, Scott, Orson, Betty Jo, Francis, and Linda; nine grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild with two on the way.

A viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 S Lincoln Ave, Jerome. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Wendell Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Grave dedication will conclude at Wendell Cemetery.
