April 12, 1937 – March 7, 2018
RUPERT — Donald Ray Mooso, an 80-year-old Rupert resident, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at his home following a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Don was born April 12, 1937, in Declo, Idaho, the son of Walter Lyonel and Ida Marie Hugentobler Mooso. Following his graduation from Burley High School, Don enlisted to serve his country in the United States Army in February of 1957. Thereafter, he married Mary Kathleen “Kathy” Massio on October 27, 1962.
Don had a passion for agriculture and began a career in agronomy, which allowed him many opportunities and provided him with many friendships in the Magic Valley. He worked primarily as a field representative for Harris Moran Seed Company.
His knowledge of agronomics carried over into his home life as he loved gardening and was successful at it. He also loved to fly airplanes as a pilot; he enjoyed golf, fishing, and he was a goose-hunting fanatic. During the winter months he loved snow skiing with his children.
Don is survived by his sweetheart of 55 years, Kathy; his sons, Justin Ray Mooso and Troy Layne Mooso, both of Rupert; his daughter, Kirsten Annette Marriott of Hansen; his brother, Dwain Mooso of Caldwell; and sisters, Marie Crawforth of Boise, Peggy Beck of Burley, and Diane Widmier of Murtaugh; he is also survived by three grandchildren, Whitney Marie Pruett, Brett Austin Neal, and Alexandria Kay Neal.
Preceding him in death are his parents; and two of his brothers-in-law, Denny Beck and Gary Crawforth.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, with military rites to be provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, March 12, and from 12 noon until 12:45 p.m. preceding the funeral service.
