BURLEY — Voters in the Pella and Parson precinct approved annexation into the Oregon Trail Recreation District on Tuesday.

The annexation means families in the area will no longer have to pay an extra $5 per child per sport to participate in rec district sports, said Clark Harman, chairman of the district’s board.

The measure, which required a simple majority to pass, received 35 votes in favor and 26 opposed.

The households within the annexation will pay a flat tax of $36 per year.

Susan Keck, Cassia County lead deputy clerk said there were 127 registered voters in the two precincts.

Harman said the money raised through taxes for the district goes to many projects in the community not just the recreation center.
