RUPERT • A new city logo will accompany fresh paint on Rupert’s water tower.
The City Council awarded the $45,000 job on Tuesday to low bidder Maguire Iron, Inc, a South Dakota-based firm.
“Maguire Iron was by far the cheapest,” said Rupert City Administrator Kelly Anthon.
Anthon stated that the company specializes in water tower construction and maintenance.
The tower will be coated with a rust-proof primer followed by one coat of paint.
“They (Maguire) tell me that it will last for 20 years,” Anthon told the council.
The Rupert water tower is disconnected from the city’s main water system and dominates Rupert’s skyline. Anthon also said that the tower would be painted with a Rupert city logo that will be selected at a future time.
Councilman Craig Swensen suggested the public be involved in the creation of a city logo.
“I think it would be a nice thing to have the public’s input on this project,” said Swensen.
The project will begin in the spring.
