RUPERT — The second annual Dessert for Dogs fundraiser featuring the area’s top chef’s sweet confections will be held 6 p.m. Thursday at Morey’s Convention Center, 219 E. Third St. N., Burley.
The event is sponsored by the Minidoka Joint Powers Animal Control Shelter, the city of Rupert and Minidoka County, and funds will go to the Minidoka animal shelter.
Participants will enjoy an evening of sampling desserts made by the area’s top chefs and others with a flair for making sweet treats. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
Treat categories include pies and cobblers, cheesecake and cake, brownies and sweet rolls, candies and chocolates and cookies and bars.
There will be prizes awarded in several dessert categories awarded through voting. A silent auction will be held, and there will be entertainment.
The organization is looking for sponsorships, donations and entries of all kinds to make the event a success.
The shelter is a non-profit funded in part by donations and volunteer staff. The shelter receives a small annual operating budget from Minidoka County taxpayers.
Because of the increasing costs of animal care, spaying and neutering, donations help the staff rescue and re-home dogs that come to the facility.
The shelter reduced the number of dogs euthanized to less than 1 percent in 2016.
