TWIN FALLS • Goode Motor nearly doubled in size Tuesday when it bought Con Paulos Volkswagen/Mazda in Twin Falls, said Matt Cook, president of the new Goode dealership.

"We'll probably double in terms of sales what we're doing. It's a big deal for us," Cook said. "Between our three companies, Burley, Hailey and now Twin Falls, we have around 80 employees now. …Expanding into this part of the valley is a good deal for us. We're locally owned. We're not some big corporate outfit like some others around."

Con Paulos, who owned the Volkswagen dealership in Twin Falls for 15 years, said he sold it because he wants to "retire on the beach."

"I've been in business for 40 years," said Paulos, who owns Con Paulos Chevorlet in Jerome. "I'm making it manageable so I can turn it over to my kids and retire. …I would say 'thank you' for the customers we've had in the Magic Valley. We would certainly want to wish the folks who bought the store the best of luck and success."

The Con Paulos dealership’s 12 employees now work for Goode, which also hired eight full-time workers for the new dealership, Cook said.

"We're a vibrant, growing business with job opportunities," he said. "Twin Falls is growing. We're expanding. We've made a big investment and are happy to serve Twin Falls."

Until the acquisition, Goode Motor primarily sold Fords. Goode is one of the oldest car dealerships in south-central Idaho. It opened in 1938 and recently received a 75th anniversary award from a Ford regional manager.

Goode Volkswagen in Twin Falls is one of four Volkswagen dealerships in Idaho, Cook said. The others are in Boise, Coeur d'Alene and Idaho Falls.

Plans are underway to renovate the new dealership, at 1534 Blue Lakes Blvd., with a new façade, remodeled interior, and more service bays and customer waiting areas. Construction will begin this spring, Cook said, and the dealership will remain open during the remodel.
