TWIN FALLS — If you’re already planning family vacations for next school year, it will be easier now with a finalized Twin Falls School District calendar.
The Twin Falls school board voted Wednesday night to approve the 2018-19 school year calendar.
There aren’t any major changes for next school year. School will start Aug. 20 — three days later than this year — and first semester will end before Christmas break.
Holiday breaks will remain the same length and school ends before Memorial Day.
A school district calendar committee — which included representatives from each school and a parent — developed the calendar. They sent out two surveys to gather feedback from school employees and parents.
Results showed the majority of parents want school to start later in August, have first semester end before Christmas and the school year to end before Memorial Day.
Both parents and teachers said they wanted more days for students in October. The calendar committee decided to restore more student days in October by moving teacher training days to before school starts.
The change will be reevaluated in late October or early November to see how employees and parents feel about the change.
