HAILEY — Syringa Mountain School director Christine Fonner has stepped down from the position, the school announced Thursday.

The announcement was made in a letter from the school board sent via email to school families. Fonner was hired as director last May.

School officials weren’t available to comment Friday.

“We are eternally grateful for all that she did for us this past year, which was significant,” the email states. “She helped us navigate our Charter renewal and establish systems for reporting, for accountability, for ensuring we are reaching the standards that we strive for with our students.”

Syringa has a hiring committee — which includes representatives from the school board, school administrators, teachers and parents — to find a new director.

It’s conducting a nationwide search and plans to start interviewing candidates next week, according to the letter.

Syringa Mountain School is a public Waldorf charter school in Hailey. It opened in 2014 and serves fewer than 200 students in kindergarten through sixth grades.
