HAILEY — A small fire broke out Thursday afternoon at the Community Campus in Hailey.
The campus is closed for the rest of the day, the Blaine County School District announced. There won’t be any student activities or events in the building, and a holiday band concert has been canceled.
A school board and finance committee meeting at 6 p.m. has been moved to Wood River High School‘s distance learning lab.
The fire started above one of the ceiling tiles, caused by a ceiling heat pump, school district spokeswoman Heather Crocker said.
She said she doesn’t know how long the fire lasted or how many students were in the building at the time. Students were evacuated to the Wood River High gymnasium.
“The fire was put out very quickly, but the main reason we closed the campus is the smell of smoke is still fairly strong,” she said.
The Community Campus is used by many groups, including the school district, College of Southern Idaho’s Blaine County Center, Blaine County Recreation District, Sun Valley Summer Symphony School of Music, Blaine County Education Foundation, Lee Pesky Learning Center and the Blaine County Community Drug Coalition.
