BOISE – A coalition has formed to support the implementation of Idaho Core Standards.
Idahoans for Excellence in Education’s goal is to give parents, policymakers and community members accurate information about Idaho Core Standards.
The more rigorous standards in English/language arts and math will be taught for the first time during the upcoming school year.
Idaho adopted the Common Core State Standards in 2011. The Gem State is among about 45 U.S. state s to do so.
In Idaho, the standards often are referred to as “Idaho Core Standards.” But for now, they’re not any different than those in other states.
For the past two years, teachers and school districts have been developing curricula to start teaching to the standards.
So far, 18 Idaho-based groups have joined the coalition in support of Idaho Core Standards.
Those include Idaho Business for Education, Idaho Education Association, a few school districts, the Meridian and Boise chambers of commerce and the Idaho State Board of Education.
