TWIN FALLS — A Twin Falls police officer accused of sexually abusing young girls did not appear in court on Tuesday as planned.

A jury trial for William Anthon Jansen, 33, was vacated when the defense made a motion to delay the trial. Jansen’s attorney has received additional information and is continuing to prepare for the trial, according to court documents.

Jansen is accused of abusing two preteen girls between 2005 and 2009, prior to joining the Twin Falls Police Department. He has pleaded not guilty to four counts of lewd conduct with a minor.

The police department knew about the allegations, and completed a “thorough background check” that included a polygraph test, before hiring Jansen in December of 2013. He was put on unpaid leave when the charges were filed in April.

The case has been handed over to Kassandra Slaven, a prosecutor from Ada County, because Jansen is a local police officer.
