RUPERT — An 18-year-old Rupert man is charged with child enticement after police said he asked an officer posing online as a 14-year-old girl for sex.
Dashiell S. Jones is charged with two counts of felony enticing children.
A city of Rupert police officer said he received a friend request on Facebook from Jones on his undercover profile, which depicted a 14-year-old female.
The officer received a private message from Jones and said the conversation escalated sexually over the next few days.
The deputy said he repeatedly told Jones he was 14 years old.
Jones sent sexually explicit photos and video of himself and then told the officer to delete the conversation, the investigator said.
The officer said Jones set up a meeting at a Rupert church on July 22 and was met by police and arrested.
Jones told the officer that prior to his arrival he had decided it was not a good idea to meet for sex and that he went to the location to tell the girl that. He said he did not want the girl to remain at the church.
A preliminary hearing in the case is set for Aug. 4 in Minidoka County magistrate court.
