JEROME • A woman told police a man forced her to drive to the desert Thursday evening before attempting to sexually assault her, an official said.
The woman walked out of the Stinker Gas Station on West Main Street in Jerome and was allegedly forced into her car by a man, described as wearing all black, who ordered her to drive into the desert, said Lincoln County Sheriff Kevin Ellis on Friday.
It was unclear Friday whether the man had a weapon, Ellis said.
Calls to Jerome Police Chief Dan Hall on Friday went unreturned.
The woman said she was forced to drive to Notch Butte, south of Shoshone, Ellis said. There the man tried to sexually assault her, but the woman fought him off, Ellis said. During the struggle, the woman sustained injuries and drove to the hospital for care, Ellis said. The incident was reported about 7:20 p.m.
Police are searching for the man, who fled the car on foot. Ellis said police do not yet have identifying information on the suspect, such as his approximate age, race or height. Ellis said he was unsure if the victim knew her assailant. The investigation is ongoing, he said.
People with information are encouraged to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 886-2250 or Jerome City Police at 324-4328.
