BURLEY — A Burley mom has been charged after she prematurely delivered a baby boy who tested positive for methamphetamine.

Mallory Jade Bronson, 26, is charged with felony injury to a child.

Because the baby was born a month early and is struggling with methamphetamine withdrawal, it may not survive, nurses said.

Cassia Regional Hospital called police Saturday. Bronson was arraigned Tuesday in Cassia County Magistrate Court.

Marijuana, meth and opiates were detected in the baby’s blood. Nurses told Cassia County Sheriff’s deputies that Bronson was given opioids for pain management during the delivery.

Bronson admitted to using meth a few days ago.

She told Health and Welfare workers and deputies that she has no job and the address she provided was to a vacant trailer on Oriental Avenue.

She also did not have food or diapers for the baby.

Investigating officers said they believed the baby’s life would be in danger if he went home with Bronson.

The hospital planned to send the newborn to Portneuf Medical Center for treatment.

A preliminary hearing in the case is set at 9 a.m. on Jan. 5.
