BOISE — Hailey lawyer Ned Williamson will succeed recently retired Fifth District Judge Robert Elgee, Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter announced Thursday.
Williamson was one of four candidates submitted to Otter for the judgeship, which is based in Blaine County. He is a former deputy prosecutor in Canyon and Blaine counties and has run a private practice in Hailey since 2001.
“Ned’s long familiarity with the civic and legal issues that come before the court in Blaine County will be a real asset to him as a district judge,” Otter said in a statement. “His extensive experience in the public and private sectors make him the right choice and a great addition to the Fifth Judicial District bench.”
Elgee retired May 31.
“I want to thank Gov. Otter for the honor and privilege of serving the citizens of the Fifth Judicial District,” Williamson said. “I also would like to thank the members of the Idaho Judicial Council for submitting my name to the governor. I will dedicate myself to being a fair and impartial judge for the people.”
